So you finally cleaned out your closet, that storage room, and your garage and purged the things you no longer want... but now you have all these extra polymer storage totes. Sure, you could stack them up and store them away in case you need them again, or you could repurpose them around your home and even garden! Edge Plastics Inc. makes long-lasting plastic storage totes for all your storage needs, but here are some of our favorite unconventional ways to repurpose them!
1. Cat Boxes
Now, there are a couple of ways you can do this. The first is creating a litter box for your cat that helps prevent litter from spreading, and from other pets getting into the litter. For this you'll need the lid and polymer storage tote base. Simply take the lid, cut a hole large enough for your feline friend in it, cover the sharp edges, and snap it back on the plastic storage tote back together. It's important to remember to cover the sharp edges with a thin covering of plastic, or carefully melting it to prevent it from causing injuries to your feline friend. For extra litter control, you can add carpeting to the top so extra litter gets left behind.
If you are looking to cater to outdoor cats, you can make homes for stray and feral felines out of plastic storage totes. If you have multiple sizes you have the option to stack them inside of each other for extra insulation, but we're going to talk about if you just have one tote. Adding foam insulation along the walls of the storage tote can create a cozy shelter. Foam insulation will keep them warm, and the tote will keep them dry. You can toss in some old towels or even tshirts for them to snuggle up in.
2. Zen Water Gardens
We recommend doing this outside, but by all means, if you desire it inside, go for it! You'll start this by digging a hole the same size as your storage tote. After the hole is dug, pack some dirt around the edges to keep it in place! From there, the creation is really up to you! We love the look of this one though, and it's so simple! Add a few paver stones around the outside edges, fill with plants (fake or real, we don't judge), and toss in a few rocks! You might notice birds or other neighborhood critters taking advantage of the water as well. If you're planning to keep this inside, you can add decorations to the outside of the tote walls.
3. Toy Boxes
Sure, you can use a regular storage tote for toy and game storage, but why not spruce it up a little bit. This one gives you a lot of creative freedom, and is a great option for those storage totes you might have lost the lids to. Covering your storage totes in fabric or twine can elevate them to match your home decor. Adding wheels to the bottom with simple glue can add extra functionality by allowing you to move them around as needed, and your kids can drag them along while cleaning up toys! If you have a lid, cover it up and slap it back on top for an out of site toy storage option.
So whether you're using your polymer storage totes from Edge Plastics Inc in a traditional way, or for a repurposing project, you are sure to have a durable and long-lasting product for all of your storage needs.
